The chasm between grief and joy is immense. Witnessing the grief of a mother following the loss of a child and then experiencing the joy of receiving a gift from my own grandchild in the form of a necklace bearing his little fingerprint began a project that has developed into a passion.

As Director of the Precious Prints Project® and a Clinical Instructor at the University of Tennessee College of Nursing, I am privileged to work with nursing students as they embrace service through action with this project. Watching them learn to apply their nursing knowledge, channel their young enthusiasm, and develop leadership skills that will prove invaluable as they begin their careers has been rewarding beyond words.

On occasion, I am honored to meet a recipient of a Precious Print. These individuals are why we do it. It is a special place in nursing.

STUDENTS

Aliza

Hello! My name is Aliza. During freshman year, I had the privilege to volunteer at my first Sprint for the Prints! I instantly fell in love with the project and the people that make it possible. Every moment with this project has been fulfilling and joyous, but my favorite memory has to be my first time going to a hospital to teach the nurses about the project. I will be taking one semester off, but plan on coming back to Knoxville to work as a NICU nurse!

Claire Phillips

Hello! My name is Claire, and I’m from the Knoxville area. I’m a senior at the University of Tennessee Knoxville’s College of Nursing. I first became interested in joining Precious Prints when our family lost our dog of nine years. We received a paw-print mold, and it has remained very close to our heart. It reminded me of the Precious Prints Project and showed me a glimpse into the healing properties prints have. Over the past year, witnessing the impact and therapeutic effects Precious Prints has on recipients has opened my eyes as to how truly special and unique the project is; it provides immense comfort to families, nurses, and entire communities all across the United States. I am the co-race chair for the Sprint for the Prints 5k. Once I graduate, I plan on becoming a pediatric oncology nurse. I’m so excited to continue serving this incredible organization and sharing the project with others!

Delaney Lenard

Hello! My name is Delaney and I'm from Northville, MI. I am currently a sophomore in the College of Nursing and can't wait to start my junior year in the fall. I've always known the Precious Prints Project was something I wanted to get involved in since I first visited UT and the College of Nursing! Learning about how many families this project has helped and how big of an impact these prints have made was something so special and unique to see and I knew it was something I could share a passion for. These prints bring a sense of comfort that words cannot bring in such a difficult time and have built such a strong community of families and mothers. I am so excited to get to be a part of this amazing project and can't wait to see it grow!

Ellie Streeter

Hello! My name is Ellie Streeter, and I am from Clarksville, TN. I was introduced to the Precious Prints Project during a Student Nurses Association meeting and immediately wanted to be involved. Hearing testimonies from nurses who have provided prints and families who have received a print allowed me to see how meaningful the gift of Precious Prints is. To me, our mission to comfort grieving families in their time of heartache is the epitome of what it means to be a nurse. I feel honored to be a part of the Precious Prints Project as the Philanthropy Co-Chair and look forward to continuing to serve families one print at a time

Mallory Burke

My name is Mallory Burke and I am from Cincinnati, Ohio. I am a junior in the College of Nursing at the University of Tennessee and have just started my work with the Precious Prints Project. I participated in the Sprint for the Prints both my freshman and sophomore year as a part of the Student Nurses Association, but I truly fell in love with the project in the fall of my sophomore year when I experienced infant loss close to me in my family. I have seen what an impact the project can make on families, and it sincerely touches me to my core. I hope that I can continue to spread the word of the project even after I graduate and move into my nursing career. I love the Precious Prints Project so much and I am very excited to be a part of the team!

Nicole Cohen

Hello! My name is Nicole, and I am from Fairfax, Virginia. I am currently a senior in the College of Nursing at the University of Tennessee and the Philanthropy Co-Chair within the Precious Prints Project. I knew I wanted to be involved with Precious Prints from my fall semester freshman year at the first Student Nurses Association meeting. They showed the video of how impactful it was for the families who had received a print, and I knew I wanted to help make a change! I have loved every moment of being a part of the Precious Prints family from participating in the annual Sprint for the Prints 5k to seeing the impact we are making on these families and nurses with their everyday challenges. Precious Prints is my home away from home and will forever be something that I carry with me throughout my future nursing career!

Olivia Gossard

Hello! My name is Olivia Gossard and I am from Columbus, Ohio. I am a senior at The University of Tennessee in the College of Nursing. I became involved with the Precious Prints Project my sophomore year after participating in the annual Sprints for the Prints 5k race! After running in the 5k, I learned more about the Project & became very passionate about their mission. My goal has always been to be a pediatric oncology nurse, so the Precious Prints Project was a great way to serve a community I am passionate about. Having a role in providing families with a tangible remembrance of their child is both heartbreaking and rewarding. I hope to continue to grow this amazing Project as Co- Race Chair and touch the lives of many more people. This Project has continued to remind me what it means to be a nurse & why I decided to pursue this career!
